Filter Channels by Unassigned / uncategorized Tasks
Andy Barton
It's great we can filter tasks by various Channels. Can you also add the ability to filter by Unassigned tasks so we can review these & add the correct Channel please
Alex Cunningham
We've added some additional support to more easily finding your #unassigned tasks.
You can now use the command bar (
CMD K
) to put your #unassigned tasks at the top or bottom of your task list. Open the command bar and type "Unassigned" or "Sort", and you'll see these options. Select that option, and your task list will be re-sorted accordingly. This works on a day-by-day basis, so first highlight whatever day you want to sort (by clicking on the day's title at the top of the task list), and the "Sort unassigned tasks..." command will apply to that day's task list.
We've decided that we won't be adding an #unassigned channel selector in the left hand panel for filtering your entire workspace view to unassigned tasks. In the future, we'll add more features to help suggest and encourage assigning a channel to each new task, so that fewer tasks are left #unassigned

Alex Cunningham I believe the ability to reorder by unassigned tasks has been recently removed from Sunsama.
My experience is that, even with the latest features in Sunsama that try to solve for tagging (e.g. AI tagging), some tasks do still get left behind and that this feature request (to quickly filter to them) would be really useful.
Could we re-open this given there's no good way in Sunsama presently (to my knowledge) of finding & tagging unassigned tasks?
Alex Cunningham
Soroush Pour: Hey Soroush, yes you're correct. As part of building new sorting options, we got rid of this option. I will re-open this thread.

Filter by no channel

Would be a simple way to safety check if I'm missing adding channels to any tasks!

Sorting #unnassigned to top or bottom is fanstastic. Thanks for that; used it immediately, and surfaced one item that I needed to assign to a channel. Awesome! thx Alex Cunningham and sunsama team.

Jeremiah Moore: Thanks Jeremiah!! Excellent to hear.

Thx Alex Cunningham. I tried it, and it's useful! Would be much MORE useful to filter the main workspace... (search always seems to turn up all manner of unexpected results for me...! like old things, forgotten things from archive, etc... not always surfacing "current" things quickly.)
Alex Cunningham
Jeremiah Moore: Thanks Jeremiah, that's useful to hear!

While it's still not possible to filter your workspace view to show only #unassigned tasks, it is now possible to list only these tasks via the the Search panel in the right hand panel.
Under "Channel: all", #unassigned is now an option. Select this to show all #unassigned tasks or combine it with the other two filter dropdown settings.

Improve Contexts / Channels Filtering: Allow "show only unassigned"
Jeremiah Moore
Improve Contexts / Channels Filtering:
We need a control which allows viewing:
- only items which are unassigned
- for a given context, only items with no specific channel assigned.
Another way to put it is: We need a control which:
- Hides items which are assigned a context
- Hides items within a context which are assigned to a Channel.
Some use cases - For instance, if my channel list is:
(this is for cases where no context or channel is assigned)
#Work
#Work/Projects
#Work/Maintenance
#Personal
#Personal/Computer
#Personal/Housework
#Personal/Errands
...I may have created something tagged #personal which is actually an Errand. but If I'm running errands, and filter by "#Persona/Errands" I won't see it.
...or at work, I may want to see only #Work and #Work/Projects, but not #Work/Maintenance... as very distracting.
There's currently no way to filter the view in this way.
An idea would be: to display a button labelled "# (unassigned)" or such, as lowest item at bottom of contexts and bottom of each context.
If it's deemed too cluttery for all users, Possibly a global setting to enable/disable this "unassigned" filter control.

+1! Would be nice for the use-case of sorting tasks when planning tasks for the next couple of days/weeks - so you could categorize your way through an 'inbox' in a way.
