Option to have completed tasks stay where I put them
Ian Cooke
I use Sunsama for tracking my hours each day in addition to more typical planning functions. Each day, I generally drag my tasks around manually so they are in the order that I expect to do them. Then later (sometimes a couple days later when I've been busy) I go back to fill in my notes of what I did that day. I have a lot of interruptions and unpredictability in my schedule, so the best way (for me) to remember what I did a day or two ago, is to see my tasks and meetings from that day in chronological order (basically the way I left them when I made my plan for the day) and this helps me spot the gaps when I know I was working that I need to remember what I was doing so I can fill it in. In current operation, when I check a task as done, it moves. Often I may not check them off in chronological (or reverse chronological) order and calendar items automatically check themselves off. the result is that I end up with a jumble of completed tasks at the bottom that are not in any sort of chronological order. It would be great to have an option that would let me keep the tasks in their original order when I check them off rather than moving them to the bottom. Similarly, the automatic sweeping of incomplete tasks to the next day can also be confusing, especially if it takes me more than the next day to get back and the tasks that may be complete but I just haven't checked them yet and find they have moved to a different day. I realize that these two requests (especially an option to turn off sweeping incomplete tasks) go against the grain of some of the intended use of the product, but it would nonetheless be very helpful for me to have these as options.

Instead of deleting a task, let me drop it

I'd like to be able to drop tasks so that they don't roll over, but stay on the day or week I planned to do them, but they are visually marked as dropped. (for example with a yellow circle with a skull, instead of a green circle with a tick)
Deleting them doesn't feel right, since they are still relevant in my life. It gives me orientation throughout the week to see them still there on one of the past days; it gives me a reminder that I have decided to drop them, they should not just vanish as if they never existed. They should not be piling up in a backlog.
An example would be patching up a zipper with a loose end on a work sweater. It is not urgent, I can wear it with the defect. It might get rolled over many times or be deleted from Sunsama but still be there on my Todoist. And eventually I might make the decision that I will just never do it. I realize that my employer will probably change before I get around to doing it, which will give me a new one with another logo on it.
I would not want to delete it, because deleting is for tasks that are not relevant at all, tasks that have been misspellt or solved themselves or completely fallen out of my universe. Feeding my neighbor's birds when her vaccation was cancelled so she doesn't need my help; or paying a monthly fee for street parking, once it's my turn and I've gotten hold of a spot in the house's garage; those are tasks I can delete. Mixing those kind of tasks with tasks that still were relevant to me leaves me with the same decision again, each time I think about the task. The zipper is still broken. Should I put it there as a task?
So, marking up a task clearly as decidedly dropped would be mentally helpful (albeit technically redundant). You can review it at the end of the week and be proud that you finally made peace with not doing it.
