Task partial completion/time

It would be cool to be able to block out working on a task for an hour, but not completing it. For example: Block on my calendar to work on task A for an hour. Also, be able to calendar block just one subtask. This is helpful for tasks that you want to work on over multiple days, like a weekly writing assignment or test studying.

Hi Sophia Cerda, this is possible! If you simply leave the task incomplete, you can continue working on it over multiple days: https://help.sunsama.com/docs/pro-tips/multi-day-tasks/

Alex Cunningham Hi Alex, this is what I have been doing but the issue was with calendar blocking. Ex: I am unable to block the task for an hour in my calendar if my expected time for the full task is 3 hours. Or if I only want to block subtask A. I can manually override the time, but this doesn't let me plan work distribution for multiple days.
Objectives work better for my intended use. I like that a long-term task (objective) can have its own window instead of existing in a single day. But, objectives lack key features -- such as expected total time for completion and exact start and due dates. Also, it is burdensome to edit tasks within an objective because it takes you to the task window to edit, instead of being able to edit within the objective window (like editing a subtask within a task window).
With the current framework I can't work around the fundamental issue of blocking time for unfinished tasks. For example, say I have objective: Complete worksheet A. Each subtask for this objective is a page of the worksheet- which becomes its own task. Say I want to block 2 hours on Monday to work on the objective (finishing my worksheet). I don't know how many subtasks I will finish in those 2 hours-- I just want to block time to work on the worksheet. Suddenly, those two hours I set aside on Monday become their own subtask/task in my objective window-- which is confusing. I have attached a picture.
I may be missing the point of objectives-- maybe they are not supposed to be for a multi-day task? Either way, there is no clean way to block on the calendar a multi-day task.

Sophia Cerda Thanks Sophia, I think I'm starting to see what you mean.
It is actually possible to timebox a task accross multiple days: https://help.sunsama.com/docs/usage-guides/timeboxing/timeboxing-how-to-timebox/#working-session-popout Maybe that's what you're looking for?
But we are working on a redesign of the objectives feature in a few ways that may get it closer to what you need. Those updates are coming later this year!
