Time planned today separate from total task time
Jack Mitchell
Separate out time planned for the task today from the total time for the task to be done. As it is, when I timebox the task to the calendar, it changes the time planned for the task. Almost all of my tasks are multi day tasks. Ususally I plan my subtasks so that I can get a subtask done in one sitting or one day, but since I can't timebox particular subtasks yet, this would be a great workaround. It could be expanded to show how many more days of working that planned time it will take to complete the task, which would be wonderful for helping with time budgeting.

This is going to be an excellent improvement!

Jack Mitchell I like this idea! I'm glad it's on the roadmap.
I also have this issue, and I have been using the workaround of setting up a weekly objective for larger tasks, then assigning the "subtask" that I would like to get done for the day to a single task, and then aligning all the tasks to the objective. Then, in the objectives view, you can see a full list of the "subtasks" as individual tasks.

Peter Vaillancourt: This is the way - this improvement really kinda sounds like a way for people to not properly break down tasks.

Peter Vaillancourt: But even with Weekly Objectives, there are improvements to make, like to showing the total amount of time spent.

The 'latest updates' section within the app talks about being able to schedule multiple work sessions which sounds like it implements this request. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this!! Can anyone help?

Actually don't worry I finally figured it out. The trouble was that I was trying to do it for a task created from a calendar event, which didn't work

I'm so glad this is "In progress" :)

This is also something I need, i often have larger projects which may take a day or more to complete. But I can't block out a whole day to work on them. So being able to plan an hour or two here or there and then see the progress against the total would be really helpful.

I was just searching the help for this type of feature and came across this!
Not sure if this is the same thing but if I plan to spend say 4hrs on a task during a day, but I want to do this in 2 or 3 sittings of 1-1.5hrs each, I'd like to be able to 'split' it into multiple blocks on my calendar. Does this already exist? Currently when I drag the task onto the calendar and adjust the time of that block to a shorter period, it adjusts the total time planned for the task.
I would also like to be able to work on the same task across multiple days, but just plan to spend 1hour working on it today (so I know I'm not going to complete the whole task, but will 'complete' some progress towards it, and have it keep track of the total time I've spent on the task, as well as how much I spent on it each day.

Claire Kemp: I believe you can just drag the same task multiple times to various time blocks on your calendar in a day. Then, by adjusting the planned time for each time block, the app will sum them up and display the "sum" in the tasks view. At least that is how I have been splitting my tasks.
I haven't found a nicer way for your second question except turning that task into an objective of the week. That way, you can see how much time is allocated to completing that task each day that week. Alternative, I think recording time of subtasks will also help, but it won't give you an overview of how much time spent on it each day during the week. Though it does let you see which subtask is completed each day.
