Things 3 integration
Ashutosh Priyadarshy
👋 Please note that while this is an incredibly popular request, it's not something we can build until Things 3 releases an API. If you are keen on seeing this built, please also reach out to their support and let them know your keen for them to add an API.

At the bare minimum, would it be possible to allow drag & drop of Tasks for Things3 to Sunsama? Most other apps allow this... I can even drag & drop Tasks from Things3 to BusyCal. It seems like a big waste of time re-typing daily tasks into Sunsama when they could be dragged in from Things

Ashutosh Priyadarshy Hi, dev here, Things 3 integration should be possible despite the lack of a web API (see amie for a successful integration). It is a little hacky, which is why their sync only works on desktop, since you need to pull all levers (things urls, applescript, database-level access, ...) to make it work. Albeit being difficult, it is currently doable, and it would be great to see an integration happen! Sadly, Cultured Code won't give in an inch on API access and I suspect this wont change anytime soon (at least until Things 4, whenever that comes...) Yet their application attracts a lot of users over competitors like Todoist for their (otherwise) great design decisions. It would be a perfect niche for Sunsama to carve out.

Victor Thanks for mentioning this and sharing that example. I've been aware there are some ways to build a OS X only copy with some of those bits of trickery that you mentioned but it hasn't felt worth pursuing because we're not really keen to build a hacky integration that has too many obvious failure cases that a non-technical customer would simply expect to work (e.g. you checked off a Things task in the sunsama web tab or sunsama's mobile app). There's probably ways to build some kind of synchronization architecture to ensure non-OS X changes get pushed through the next time the user becomes active on their OS X machine but it would be significantly more work to build, maintain and support than just about any other feature we have.
For now, we've opted to simply not do it because we believe the technical limitations will lead to headaches for us and our customers.

This is something I've been experimenting with for a long time, and I understand the technical difficulties here -- I used the Trello workaround below, but ran into some errors, but think I have found somewhat of a workaround as of last night.
This is not a two-way sync, but it's an Apple Shortcut that unfortunately only works on iOS at the moment where your tasks in the Things Today list can be synced over to your Sunsama day-of list.
I was inspired by this shortcut that moved Things tasks to Bear and thought it might be possible to do it to Sunsama. https://www.reddit.com/r/bearapp/comments/14x6kmu/shortcut_daily_note_with_things_tasks/
Feel free to customize my Shortcut above in any way it may be helpful!

Sean Quinn Amazing!
Hopefully the admin is tracking this page. Amie recently got Things integration so Sunsama can too now.

Hi, all. Not sure what’s changed or how they did it, but the new calendar app Amie (https://www.amie.so/) has managed a full integration with Things. Guess it’s possible now! Hope the Sunsama team will look into it — there are a ton of Things fans who’d love to connect with Sunsama and vice versa! :)
Tim Whalen
Dodge Rea yup, I just saw that as well. Let's hope there's movement :)

+1, I've used apps that could import from Things (like Craft) just using some of the methods outlined below. I tried using Sunsama as my backlog but it's just not robust & native enough for me to quickly capture what I need on all platforms, Things is still best for that. But Sunsama is still king with actual routine & planning & goal setting & calendar integration. The two need to work together.

Is there any movement on this?

Please do this! I use Things3 for EVERYTHING, it is the external hard drive of my brain---there is no way I could fully switch to Sunsama without integrating my Things3 tasks, and having to retype all of my daily tasks each day is a huge waste of time.
I am in love with Sunsama's scheduling features and the gentle assistance with time management (critical for my ADHD), but with everything I've built for myself in Things3 over many years, I cannot abandon it completely.
Integration between Sunsama and Things3 is the deciding factor in whether I will choose to continue with a paid Sunsama subscription or not. Please, let me have both, it would completely change my life!
Perry Minella
Please note, I've sent Things3 a similar message begging them to release an API. I hope you can make it work!

Hello Perry Minella I also love Things 3 and would love to know how you decided to tackle that issue in the end. Did you find a replacement for Things 3 or a workaround? Thanks!

Please! This is the sole factor between me committing to either Sunsama or Routine. Whoever does it first has me for life!

I use Things 3 and having Sunsama integrate with it would be TREMENDOUSLY beneficial.

Could you please incorporate this integration? Things 3 has open SQLite databese: https://culturedcode.com/things/support/articles/2982272/
While I find Sunsama an excellent tool, it lacks meaning for me without this particular feature or at least API, which would allow me to do it by myself.
