We'll be adding more widget types.

...is the widget really "complete"? Mine (iPhone) doesn't even have the start time or anything on it - it just has my next task & 0:00 - 0:05 if it's a 5 minute task. That's crazy if that's what they ended up with? I'm on a trial and I don't understand why I'd pay for Sunsama when they have the world's worst widget that they've had up in this state for a over year..? Or have I just done the widget wrong (I don't understand how, there's only two options and it's just the same one but bigger)

complete

Joseph Callaars, just tried the widget. I can see that it will be really useful, but it needs one important thing imo:
It should sync quickly with changes in the app, but at the moment (unless its just me?) the sync takes 15-30 seconds. This basically makes it unusable for me, as it's mostly important for keeping a sense of your time in the current task.
Joseph Callaars
Matthew Capps: Unfortunately there are major restrictions to what a widget is capable of and both Android and Apple make it incredibly difficult to make realtime updates.
When you say the sync takes 15-30 seconds, I'm guessing that you have the app in the background and are just watching the widget, correct?
The way it works is when you change something on the web/desktop app we will send a push notification to your mobile device and when it is picked up by the app a so called "update request" for the widget is sent to the operating system (i.e. Android or iOS). What happens then and when the OS actually updates the widget is out of our control and quite frankly pretty black box at the minute.
I'm really hoping this will improve in the future, and it sure does look like widgets will get a much bigger role but unfortunately for us, their functionality as it is now is still quite limited.
I hope that explains!
Matthew Capps
Joseph Callaars: It does! Thanks for the reply!

Nothing to add, really. The lack of this in the Android version is what's keeping me from going back to Sunsama, which I really enjoyed using during the trial. As the OP says, I would like it to be a "tickable" list of some sort like other todo apps look like.
Again, very thankful if this is coming up.
Joseph Callaars
Anders Moberg: The Android version also has a widget, are you sure you're on the latest version?
Kate Topchiy
Joseph Callaars: I have the latest Android version and the widget I have is not even close to the described "tickable to-do list for the day"
It just shows the task that I already did and a time amount I set for it.
Please lmk how to add the "tickable to-do list for the day" as a widget
Joseph Callaars
Kate Topchiy: Hi Kate, it does say preferably a tickable to-do list in the description here but the current widget architecture provided by Android is preventing from doing that. Hopefully in future Android versions we're able to get this going. For now, all we can do is show your current top-most task. Hope that makes sense!
Kate Topchiy
Joseph Callaars: Ah okay, thank you, Joseph! I guess I misunderstood :D Have a nice day!
Joseph Callaars
Kate Topchiy: No you didn't misunderstand, it's just the post description here which isn't correct.
Jeffrey Winer
Joseph Callaars: MyLifeOrganized and Clickup both do exactly that in the Androids architecture, so this comment confuses me!
Joseph Callaars
Jeffrey Winer: That's correct, for larger widgets this is a possibility, but not the smaller square ones. We will create larger and more diverse widgets as we continue.
Renata C
Joseph Callaars: yes the current widget doesn't really do anything but show one task and then click it to see all of them in the Sunsama task view.. having a tick able widget to see what's next at least the next 3 to 5 tasks would be game changera
Jeffrey Winer
Joseph Callaars What happened to this plan? The Android widget is still a shadow of what it needs to be almost a year later.
Joseph Callaars
Jeffrey Winer You are right. I updated the iOS widget in early January but the Android one still needs updating. I will do this ASAP but unfortunately I have some other pressing things to also look at. It will be done, though.
Rebecca C
The iOS widget doesn’t work for me. It says ‘Done for the day’ with a tick instead of showing my next task (I have about 15)
Joseph Callaars
Rebecca C: Is this still the case for you on the latest version Rebecca?

For iOS we have now a widget available. For Android you can expect one in the next public release.
Dom Vin
Ashutosh Priyadarshy: the iOS widget is very limited, are more due?
Ashutosh Priyadarshy
Dom Vin: What are you hoping to be able to do/see in the widget?
Dom Vin
Ashutosh Priyadarshy: i personally would have a double wide one showing calendar on one side and incomplete todos on the other side
Bryan Whiting
Ashutosh Priyadarshy: +1 to Dom's point - I want a widget like Todoist/TickTick,etc. that show you what tasks you have remaining + cal. Check out Scriptable's Weathercal app: https://github.com/mzeryck/Weather-Cal. I'm not interesting in the ability to build a dynamic widget like scriptable, but if your widget had tasks on one side and cal on the other, that'd be amazing.
Ismael Wali
Ashutosh Priyadarshy: Exactly what Dom and Bryan Said
Renata C
Bryan Whiting: that would be awesome if Sunsama could do this!

Widget for the app

What I really like with Todoist is the ability to have a full phone screen widget with my "Today". I set it as the default home screen so I can see it everyday. Sunsama seems really great but I need to have this on my phone!! Otherwise I will miss important things !
